2017 AeroTech Congress & Exhibition Wraps Successful Aerospace Event in Fort Worth, Texas(October 11, 2017)

The AeroTech Congress & Exhibition-SAE International's biennial event-recently wrapped a successful event at the Fort Worth Convention Center. For three days, the aerospace community gathered together for active learning, collaboration and discovery into the future of aviation. AeroTech which staged September 26, 2017, brought together industry leaders to discuss and debate important, industry-changing topics including: materials and manufacturing to avionics, power and propulsion with the goal of collaborating, innovating and ultimately improving the future of Aerospace.
The cornerstone of the event is its keynote speakers, which this year included: Orlando Carvalho, Executive Vice President of Aeronautics Lockheed Martin Corp. delivered the opening keynote titled “Technology Unlocking the Future", Kristen J. Baldwin, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, focusing on system engineering opportunities and David Seymour, Senior Vice President of Integrated Operations at American Airlines discussed the future of commercial aviation.
Following the keynote addresses, Boeing's Global Services Vice President of Engineering, Modifications & Maintenance, Lynne Hopper took the stage and announced a new $2 Million GoFly challenge to create the very first personal flying device.
“At Boeing, we believe that it may now be possible to realize one of mankind's enduring dreams: Personal Flight. We are excited to announce that Boeing is the grand sponsor of an international challenge to create the first ever safe, personal flying device, capable of flying 20 miles while carrying a single person, said Hooper. “This is a challenge for inventors, designers and dreamers to create a personal flying device, a chance to make history."
Additional highlights from the event include exclusive special presentations from researchers, industry executives and thought leaders were held in a new show floor feature called, The Hangar, where topics like the future of aviation and military aircraft were discussed. Special guest, Jon Jeffery, Director of Technology and Business Development at Parker Aerospace drew a crowd as he recounted his research and presented his findings in his search of Amelia Earhart on the Marshal Islands.
“Building on the success of this year's AeroTech, we will look to develop programs that engage the leaders actively working on developing the technology and working on the innovations that will define the next generation of aerospace technology at our 2019 event.", says Jim Forlenza, director, SAE engineering events, SAE International.
