Remote Computer Can Broadcast to Projectors, Other Computers

NEC is uniting two of its technologies - computers and projectors - for a unique solution that lets users control one or more projectors as well as one or more other computers from a remote desktop.

NEC says the LT245 and LT265 are the first projectors to feature remote desktop control and the ability to broadcast information to multiple projectors and multiple computers.

NEC's Image Xpress also lets users broadcast from one computer to several projectors. The models also accommodate CompactFlash memory cards.

The LT245 and LT265 come with an integrated RJ45 connection so they can hook up to the LAN, as is often required for diagnostics and theft-prevention.

The NEC LT245, with 2200 ANSI lumens, has an estimated street price of $2,195. The NEC LT265, with 2500 ANSI lumens, has an estimated street price of $2,495.

Mitsubishi's New 1500-Lumen Priced Under $1K

Mitsubishi Digital introduced a new projector specified at 1500 ANSI lumens and 2000:1 contrast ratio and selling for only $995. The SE2U projector has all the video and computer inputs most projectors have these days and weighs six pounds. If that doesn't attract the late-adopters, nothing will.

Epson Introduces 4000-Lumen, Network Projector

Epson America introduced a new XGA-resolution projector specified at 4000 ANSI lumens and 700:1 contrast ratio. The PowerLite 7900p is based on 3LCD technology and weighs 12.3 pounds. This is awesome!

There is a built-in Ethernet port for attaching it to the network and the company's Quick Corner onscreen interface can control keystone corrections. Wall Shot provides automatic color corrections, useful when projecting onto colored surfaces. The projector has two brightness levels for accommodating ambient light and saving bulb life.

Inputs include D-sub15, BNC, DVI, S-Video, video and monitor out. The PowerLite 7900p has a 1.35x zoom lens and there are several optional lenses.

The PowerLite 7900p sells for MSRP of $4,399.

New Sony Home Theater Projector Boasting 6000:1 Contrast Ratio

Sony's new VPL-HS51 Cineza projector, using the 3-LCD panel system, is specified at 1280 x 720 resolution and claims a 6000:1 contrast ratio. Sony says this is achieved by an advanced iris function that lets the projector dynamically adjust the video image according to the level of the input signal.

It has horizontal and vertical lens shift, Ethernet for home networking and an HDMI interface.

InFocus Introduces 61" DLP

At CEDIA, InFocus showed its awesome 61-inch DLP rear-screen television, one of the coolest and biggest self-contained DLPs on the market. Cool because the ScreenPlay 61md10 is just 6.5 inches deep! InFocus showed it hanging on a wall, demonstrating that it can rival any plasma and LCD in terms of sleek look and space-saving design.

The company also introduced a 50" model, the ScreenPlay 50md10. Both models use the InFocus Engine, HomeAV integration of TI's DLP technology, are native 720p (1280 x 720), include integrated HD tuners, and DVI+HDCP, component and S-video connections.

InFocus also has the 61" DLP for business, the TD61. http://www.infocus.com/eng/amer/thindisplay/td61.asp?site_lang=1&site_region=1&

The ScreenPlay 61md10 is available in October for $8,999. The ScreenPlay 50md10, $6,999, will be available in November.

LG Electronics Announces 71-inch Plasma

No, that's not a typo. LG Electronics showed a 71-inch widescreen HD plasma TV. The MW-71PY10 is specified at 1920 x 1080p resolution and includes LG's XD Engine technology for detail and color enhancement and minimizing distortion and noise, bringing analog signals to near high definition.

Inputs on the MW-71PY10 include DVI+HDCP, HDMI, RS-232C and PC. And, for the three people in the world who use this feature LG says the new MW-71PY10 is capable of displaying nine PIP pictures on the screen and the PIP has split-zoom and twin-picture features. The sub-windows can be moved, resized, swapped, and split into multiple windows.

In an obvious marketing move, LG also announced what they call DoubleLife technology, which they claim doubles the lifespan of plasma screens, up to 60,000 hours. Or as LG claims -- more than 40 years of normal viewing, 4.5 hours a day, 365 days a year. LG incorporated some tricks into these plasmas, such as shifting a static image (such as a network logo) every ten minutes, varying the brightness of a static image, inversion (mapping a reverse image to an affected area) and whitewashing, which LG says will theoretically "wash away" any evidence of burn-in.

LG also touted its new line of digital cable ready HDTVs for cable and over-the-air HDTV reception. The sets, both DLP and plasma TVs, use a CableCARD provided by users' cable companies and receive all channels, even premium programming. No need for a box.

The DLP model, the DU-52SZ61D is a 52-inch integrated HDTV using the TI 1280 x 720p HD2+ chip. MSRP is a competitive $4,199

The plasma models come in 42, 50 and 60 inches and are priced at $5,499, $6,999 and $14,999.

Sony's 70-Inch: Sony's First Rear Pro TV with SXRD

Sony announced the 70-inch Grand WEGA KDS70XBR100 with SXRD technology, due out early next year. The set is specified at 1920 x 1080 resolution and 3000:1 contrast ratio and uses SXRD technology with a three-panel design and the company's X-tal Reflective Display, used in its QUALIA 004 front projector.

The new 70-inch TV has Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction version 2 circuitry (DRC-MFv2), which enables the digital mapping of conventional NTSC sources as well as 1080i HD signals. DRC-MFv2 uses a proprietary algorithm for clearer pictures to provide crisp, clear pictures and the Image Format Processor technology optimizes contrast.

The Grand WEGA has a built-in S-Master digital amplifier for improved sound reproduction and the TV has detachable speakers so that the sound system can not only be upgraded, but replaced altogether.

Price is expected to be under $10,000.
